Buyer takeaway: A generator step-up transformer connects generation to a higher-voltage system. Define the generator and grid requirements together before screening equipment.
State the generator-side requirement
Provide generator output, terminal voltage, frequency and the approved electrical design basis. Distinguish real power in MW from apparent power in MVA; the responsible engineer sets the transformer rating using the project’s operating requirements.
Resolve the winding and operating design
Request the connection diagram, neutral and grounding arrangement, tertiary information where applicable, cooling stages, impedance and insulation data. Existing equipment needs review for the proposed generation duty; a voltage ratio alone is not evidence of GSU suitability.
Coordinate release through energization
List required factory or field records, inspection access, transport condition and reassembly scope. Coordinate interfaces with the generator, switchyard, protection and commissioning teams. A delivery date and an energization date are separate commitments.
| Review area | Buyer action |
|---|---|
| Generation side | Generator rating basis, voltage, grounding and operating duty |
| Network side | Required voltage, insulation, protection and utility interface |
| Equipment evidence | Nameplate, drawings, tests and actual included accessories |
Are all high-voltage transformers GSU transformers?
No. The intended duty and design must be established. Our GSU collection uses listings expressly identified as GSU equipment in the catalog.

Move from review to equipment selection
Send your specification or equipment ID, project location and required date. We’ll identify the information available for the proposed unit and the items that still need confirmation.
This guide supports procurement. Final design, suitability, testing and acceptance remain with the project’s qualified professionals and agreed documents.
